2009 Heisman Trophy Race

Watching the Heisman Trophy race shape up every year is incredible. When one bad game can ruin your chances at winning the coveted trophy it makes for an excellent race every single year. This year there are a couple surprises at the top of the list which I’m sure nobody would have predicted at the beginning of the season. We’re going to take a look at several of the front runners for this year’s Heisman Trophy. These aren’t in any sort of order or anything, but if you want my thoughts I want to see Ingram win the race.

Mark Ingram

If Alabama can finish off the season with a BCS National Championship Title then and Ingram plays a role in the victory then I lean in favour of him winning the Heisman. Watching Ingram against the Gators was incredible as he put on a show while playing on National Television. While Ingram skyrocketed to the top of the Heisman Trophy list, his counterpart in that game, Tebow fell right off the radar. Ingram set an Alabama school record with 1542 yards rushing this season. He also added 15 touchdowns and will have the chance to add a couple more in January.

Toby Gerhart

Many football betting people believe that Toby Gerhart has a great chance at winning this year’s Heisman Trophy. I believe he definitely deserves to win the Trophy, but the fact he plays on Stanford might hurt his chances. Stanford had a pretty good season this year thanks to Gerhart, but I’m not sure if it’s enough to win the Heisman Trophy. If we went by stats only then Gerhart and Moore would be atop the list this year I feel, but there are definitely other factors considered. Toby ran for a stunning 1736 yards and even more stunning he popped in 26 touchdowns for his team.

Colt McCoy

Colt McCoy didn’t really have an all-star season in my opinion and he had some real shaky games, especially early in the season. He did pick up his play later in the season and had some huge games, but they were against some rather weak defences. After the game against Nebraska there is no way that we’re going to see McCoy win the Heisman Trophy this year.

Kellen Moore

Some of you might have never even heard the name Kellen Moore before until this season. Moore has taken Boise State on an incredible ride this college football betting season and it still isn’t over. Kellen has thrown for 3325 yards this season with 39 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. These stats are simply incredible and Moore definitely deserves to be in the hunt this year. We will also get to see more of Moore in the coming years since he can still play two more years if he chooses too stay.

Ndamukong Suh

Suh who plays with Nebraska is simply a huge man that can actually move quickly. There is no doubt that he is going to be playing in the NFL, but he won’t be winning a Heisman Trophy. A defensive player isn’t going to win this year, but it’s remarkable that he made it as a finalist. Suh played hard every single game and capped it all off with 4.5 sacks against Texas and Colt McCoy.
